2026 Heavy Metal Summer Experience Camp - Graduation

Congratulations to the graduates of Central’s 3rd Heavy Metal Summer Experience Camp!

For three weeks in July, students had the opportunity to explore careers in the skilled trades through hands-on projects, safety training, shop tours, and interactive learning experiences. Along the way, they learned from experienced professionals and gained a firsthand look at what a career in the mechanical trades can offer.

We were also honored to welcome HMSE Co-Founder & President Angie Simon and Wichita Mayor Lily Wu to this year’s graduation. Thank you both for taking the time to recognize and encourage our students as they celebrated this milestone.

A program like HMSE is only possible because of the many people who believe in investing in the next generation. Job Responsibilities:

Collaborate with Engineers, Architects, etc. to determine specifications of the Project
Client development/relationships
Negotiating contracts with Vendors to reach profitable agreements
Lead, Manage, Accountability
Obtain permits and licenses from appropriate authorities
Plan and manage all construction operations
Setting up and managing jobs in Procore
Building and monitoring job schedules
Determine required resources (manpower, equipment, and materials) from start to finish with attention to budgetary limitations
Responsible for bringing jobs in on time and at or under budget
Hire and coordinate subcontractors
Supervise work of foremen and give guidance when needed
Evaluate progress and report results to management
Ensure adherence to safety standards
Establish project contacts (General Contractor, Other Trades, Vendors, etc.)
Submit design and calculations to GC's, AHJ's and all follow up required
Attend project meetings as required
Submit and track change orders
Maximize apprentice training exposure
Project reports completed in Keystyle as needed
Research and locate, cold call new prospects
Assist in collections as needed
Develop profitable purchasing strategies
Assess suppliers and analyze offers
Preparing and implementing effective negotiation tactics

Requirements:

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Construction, preferred
Minimum 2 - 4 years of experience in the Construction Industry, required

We are currently seeking an experienced Sprinkler Fitter Foreman to join our Wichita, KS team!

The right candidate will be highly detailed oriented, accurate and organized; a self-starter who possess strong initiative to improve processes and procedures without waiting for specific instructions. This person will ensure a high-quality standard and consistency of service in their position in accordance to Central Consolidated standards providing the customer with an exceptional experience.

Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for bringing jobs in on time and at or under budget
Coordinate Construction Work according to Priorities and Plans
Producing Schedules and Monitoring Attendance of Crew
Safety practices at job site
Allocating General and Daily Responsibilities
Submitting Daily Reports
Ensure the acquisition, distribution, & safe keeping of the Tools
Supervise and train workers
Resolve problems when they arise
Report progress to managers, engineers, etc.
Turn in time for crew daily
Coordinate/schedule material deliveries
Establish project contacts (GC's, other trades, vendors, etc.)
Get approval for lay down areas and on-site storage PRIOR to material delivery
Check work area, tools, and equipment for safety concerns. Notify your Project Manager of any concerns.
Attend all project meetings as required (Notify Project Manager, immediately of any Scope, RFI's and schedule changes)
Coordinate installation with other trades
Track all material. Ensure a Purchase Order is created for all material orders
Schedule lift and equipment deliveries and removal (notify your PM of type, duration, and dates so cost can be properly tracked)
Visualize your installation and make sure key elements are on site or scheduled for delivery
Qualify the next day's work and beyond: Material is complete and on site, required tools and equipment on site, coordinate work with owner's representative in existing facilities
Once a system is activated, notify the GC or property owner of emergency shut down and draining procedures (For Fire Division)
Schedule tests with AHJ (For Fire Division)
Maximize apprentice training exposure
Conduct or attend job box safety and informational skills
Daily project reports completed in Keystyle

Requirements:

High school diploma, required.
Visibility requires maintaining a professional appearance and providing a positive company image to the public.
Must have good reading, writing and arithmetic skills.

Mechanical Construction Project Highlight - Advancing Healthcare

Central’s Mechanical Construction Division is proud to be part of the new 150,000-square-foot Muscogee Creek Nation Outpatient Clinic

Our Mechanical Construction Team is proud to be providing complete plumbing, mechanical, and below-grade drainage systems for the new 150,000-square-foot Muscogee Creek Nation Outpatient Clinic.

To date, our crews have completed the building’s under-slab drainage system and approximately 65% of the below-grade sanitary sewer piping. We are also prefabricating 8-inch Type K copper hydronic piping on-site, helping improve quality, coordination, and installation efficiency.

Working alongside the general contractor, Crossland Construction, this fully BIM-coordinated project demonstrates the value of collaboration and detailed planning. As construction progresses, Central remains focused on delivering quality workmanship that will support a modern healthcare facility for the Muscogee Creek Nation for years to come.

Meet Gerardo Delgado | Drafting Technician

We are thrilled to welcome Gerardo Delgado to the Central Consolidated Team as a BIM Drafting Technician.

Gerardo will help support our project teams by creating and maintaining accurate BIM models and construction drawings for mechanical projects. With experience in HVAC, sheetmetal installation, CAD drafting, and BIM design, Gerardo brings strong technical knowledge and attention to detail to his role. He attended Wichita Area Technical College, where he studied HVAC/R, and Butler Community College, where he studied Pre-Engineering. Gerardo is also a licensed Mechanical Journeyman and holds an EPA Certification.

Outside of work, Gerardo enjoys horseback riding, performing rope tricks for Mexican rodeos, and creating lasting memories with his nieces and nephews.

Mechanical Construction Project Highlight - Sports of the World

Large-Scale Mechanical and Plumbing Installation Conducted by Central Consolidated's Mechanical Construction Division

The O’Brate Field House in Garden City, Kansas, is equipped with a commercial mechanical system designed to support large indoor sports spaces. Multiple rooftop HVAC units provide heating, cooling, and ventilation to the courts, turf areas, conference rooms, and offices, ensuring excellent air quality during high-occupancy events. The facility’s plumbing system supports heavy daily use with distributed potable water, large restroom groups, locker-room showers, and service lines for the kitchen and concession areas. Sanitary drainage routes wastewater to the city sewer, while floor drains, mop sinks, and hose bibbs throughout the facility make cleaning and maintenance efficient and safe.

This project provided our field crew with hands-on experience in large-scale mechanical and plumbing installation. Working in a fast-paced sports-center environment helped strengthen coordination, problem-solving, and communication skills while adapting to design changes and tight deadlines. Newer technicians had the opportunity to learn alongside experienced team members, building confidence with commercial systems and refining their craftsmanship.

Central is proud to have contributed to this project, supporting a facility that will benefit athletes, staff, and the community for years to come.

Mechanical Service Project Highlight - Modular Chiller Upgrade

Modular Chiller Upgrade and A2L Safety Integration Conducted by Central Consolidated's Mechanical Service Division

Central’s Service Division recently completed a major upgrade project that included removing the existing Trane chiller from the facility’s basement—an effort that required the unit to be cut apart and safely hauled out—and replacing it with a new modular Trane chiller system for improved efficiency and reliability.

In addition, our Team installed a new emergency refrigerant leak detection and mitigation system to meet updated code requirements related to the flammability of A2L refrigerants, ensuring enhanced safety and compliance.

Lastly, we replaced the cooling tower media on the existing cooling tower to help restore optimal system performance.

Custom Fabrication Project Highlight - Downdraft Paint Booth

Downdraft Paint Booth Designed by Central Consolidated's Custom Fabrication Division

T his 20,000 square foot, new construction project included complete mechanical and plumbing installation, and installation of a 86’ x 84’ paint booth. Central assisted in the design of the filter ceiling as well as the air balance system for the return tunnel system.

Our Team also fabricated and installed large ductwork and fittings, some that were the size of a pickup truck. Central provided our extensive knowledge, years of experience, and had an excellent working relationship with all the parties involved that made this project a success.

Project Highlight: Multi-Agency Center Renovation

Central Consolidated is proud to support the renovation of the Multi-Agency Center.

The Multi-Agency Center is a homeless shelter located at 1025 N. Main. Working alongside McCownGordon Construction, our Team has been replacing outdated mechanical systems and upgrading the facility’s infrastructure—all while the building remains occupied.

The project includes the removal of two existing boilers and associated pumps, replaced with new high-efficiency boilers, a chiller, pumps, and all necessary hydronic specialties. We also installed new flue and combustion air systems, a unit heater, and rerouted gas piping from the mechanical room to the roof to serve new shower areas.

Inside the living spaces, upgrades include: 13 men’s showers, 6 women’s showers, new restrooms (14 toilets, 8 urinals, 21 lavatories), a laundry area, and redistributed air systems to improve comfort throughout. Central's Service Division has also supported several change orders, from fan coil unit inspections and filter replacements to additional repairs beyond the original scope.

A huge thank you to Chris Larsen, Chase Moses, Joe Landry, and their crews for their dedication and craftsmanship. Their teamwork and attention to detail continue to make this project a success.

Tyler Drinnen - Mechanical Service Account Manager

Tyler Drinnen joined Central Consolidated in April 2025 as a Mechanical Service Account Manager.

Tyler’s journey in the trades started early. At just 12 years old, he spent his summers and school breaks helping his grandpa Rick at American Mechanical, sweeping floors and organizing fittings. When he turned 18, he officially entered the mechanical trade and spent the next 12 years as a service technician before moving into the office to take on his current role at Central.

Outside of work, Tyler enjoys playing golf (though he admits he’s still perfecting his swing). Around the office, his coworkers describe him as: "Dependable, hardworking, and always willing to lend a hand. Even on short notice, Tyler consistently goes above and beyond expectations and is an outstanding member of our team."

Ella Nash - Accounting Clerk - AR Team

We’re excited to highlight Ella Nash as Central Consolidated’s featured employee this month!

Ella joined Central Consolidated in April 2023 as part of our AR team. Before coming to Central, she built a wide range of experience in different industries. Some of her favorite roles include working in the Payroll and HR department at Mobile Addiction LLC for five years, serving as a Personal Banker at Heartland Credit Union for three years, and managing Express for two years (a role she especially loved because of the clothes). Outside of work, Ella enjoys playing video games and writing, especially in the spooky and mystery genres. Although she admits she’s too shy to share her writing publicly, she loves getting lost in the process. Wade Gilberston

Wade has been in the Fire Sprinkler Trade since 2000 beginning in Minneapolis, Minnesota as an Apprentice in the Local 417. He became a Foreman in 2005 while working as a Service Tech so that he could better serve his customers. Wade enjoys building strong relationships with his customers while providing them with his quality expertise by completing their inspections and serving the fire sprinkler equipment. Wade moved to Wichita in 2011, and joined Central Consolidated in August of 2016 where he has continued to advance in his career. In January of 2017, he was promoted to Service Manager for our Fire Protection Division and currently holds the position of Fire Protection Division Manager.

"It is with tremendous pride and respect that I am reaching out to you and the rest of the amazing Central Consolidated Team to say that you all have once again come through for me in my time of need.

After finding myself in quite an unfortunate situation with another vendor and expectations on my team increasing on an urgent repair, I reached out to the man, the myth, the Legend, Wade Gilbertson in the hopes that he would be able to provide the necessary and critical support needed to overcome the challenge.

Not only did he offer his immediate and unwavering support, offered up the services of the Central Fab Shop, cleared a path for urgent attention AND delivery of the materials once ready, he personally delivered the necessary fittings not once, but TWICE after we learned that our situation unexpectedly changed and further attention/hardware was required to finish the job.

Their professionalism, positive attitudes, and safety-minded perspectives go a very long ways in our environment, and should be recognized some way.

I’ve seen somewhere a few times on updates I follow on social media, probably LinkedIn, a reference to Central’s “Technician Of The Month”, and I can’t possibly think of 2 more deserving colleagues representing Central Consolidated. I’ve attached a photo they were both kind enough to be seen in with me for reference ��

Please ensure that all of these individuals are appreciated in some way as they have absolutely, unequivocally reminded me of one of the most effective partnerships I’ve had in my life and career.

I am in awe of this level of support and I have dearly missed it since our last opportunity to work together.
