National Construction Appreciation Week: Featuring our Mechanical Service Division's Most Complex Job

Central Consolidated's Mechanical Service Division Upgrades a Historic Theatre Steam System

Our Service Division recently replaced the steam boiler at a historic theatre built in 1931. Getting the new boiler into place required careful planning and some creative problem-solving. It was brought in through the alley stage entrance, lowered through a trap door at the back of the stage, and moved approximately 50 feet through a short, narrow hallway between dressing rooms. To make the tight space work, the boiler had to be disassembled, moved through the hallway, and reassembled in place.

The project also included upgrades to bring the new steam boiler into compliance with Kansas State Fire Marshal requirements. Our Team installed a water softener, blowdown separator, automatic makeup water system, stainless steel chimney liner, and extra-wide door openings in two walls to improve future service access.

From navigating a challenging installation to upgrading the system for continued operation, our Team helped keep this historic theatre ready for the years ahead.
